I use the endura luminite versions, which comes with just a velcro fastening - no zip. zips don't hold up very well ime
the luminite version is thinner than the neoprene version, and just as warm imo.

Show us the rest of your rubber suit. ;)

Leaving aside zips and velcro, there seem to be two distinct styles of overshoes, i.e. shiny ones and the other kind. Are the shiny ones the properly waterproof ones then? I've borrowed some non-shiny Altura ones from my flatmate and they kept my feet dry in light rain today but I don't know if they would have worked so well in a real downpour.

My answer to this would be it depends on what riding i'm doing and also what time of year it is.

If I'm touring, I take altura goretex overshoes no matter what time of year it is. This is because I can't deal with wet feet while touring, and there's nothing worse than putting wet shoes on in the morning. I've also been known to wear waterproof socks and goretex overshoes, I hate wet feet so much! I also wear these on winter rides because they're so warm.

If I'm training and its june - sept, I'll wear some super-tight descente jobbies. Surprise surprise I also hate cold feet, and they get very cold. In the shoulder months (mar, april, may; oct nov) i've got some other altura ones which have reflective strips on and are a bit thicker...

If I'm mtbing I wear winter boots with waterproof socks, which works OK.

Yes I am anal about overshoes...

I know where you're coming from Kirstie - I was just sorting out the overshoes and gloves box for the cold/wet weather and find that I have 8 pairs of overshoes (in addition to 2 pairs of waterproof winter boots).

Like you, I often use lightweight oversocks in the warmer months, swopping to Windstopper about September - first just WS front panels on a lycra sock then full WS, then neoprene overshoes as it gets colder and wetter. I've got damaged capillaries from frostbite so cold injuries are a constant possibility even when most people wouldn't actually consider it to be at all cold.

For really cold but dry weather I use electronic footheaters in shoes with the WS overshoes as too much humidity builds up inside neoprene overshoes or winterboots to make it worth using when it's dry.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've ordered some Enduras as well as a pair of Crud Roadracers. The Sunday club run left my bike covered in mud and it wasn't even that wet so it's definitely belt and braces time.

Just thought I'd report back.

Because of various Parcel Force shenanigans (grrr) today was the Enduras' first outing. They worked very well, keeping my feet toasty (but not too toasty) for a rather muddy 39 miler so all in all I'm very pleased - thanks for the recommendation!

Only bad thing is the left overshoe was rubbing the crank and I didn't realise. It now has 2 gouges in it, one of which is fairly deep.

Anyone know if rubber cement works on neoprene?

Large, Neoprene, easily adjusted, good fit around ankles

I bought a pair of Vision Repel (large neoprene with velcro closures) 10 years ago - adjust easily over all the cycling shoes I have owned, keep my feet warm - however -they are in tatters now, I bought a pair of Endura which are excellent however they only fit over my off-road shoes - My choice of touring shoe is a nice wide vibram soled shoe - I could not find a pair of neoprene overshoes that fitted properly so this summer/autumn tour I took a pair of "waterproof" Altura overshoes - not so good as they were always falling apart and not that warm

I would recommend the Endura neoprene overshoe for "normal" soled shoes but can anyone suggest a neoprene overshoe for a trekking style shoe?
