Just had an email to say our local is opening 6th July. You have to book a table even if you just want a drink. Contactless payment only. Menus will be single use.

Our son runs a pub. If you want a drink there you have to have an app......no bar service, you order your drink on the app.

It will be a long time before we sit in a pub. Maybe in the garden, order and pay via an app but I doubt it.

It's madness and it has to stop soon, this risk aversion will only provide negatives. We can't go out and spend to get the economy moving if numerous obstacles are put in our way rendering anything we want to do, unenjoyable. I'll be steering well clear of pub chains unless Spoons goes renegade. I see Cineworld is making masks mandatory in the foyer, but not when seated, when you are eating their food & drink. We are behaving inexplicably. But the data is is only going one way.

My 4th July is getting ever smaller, Leeds is out, it'll be total bedlam, Saltaire seems to heading the same way (no chains) so we'll probably just go to a local and choose the one with the least restrictions.:okay:

Not sure what your main point is (but it is 0630:wacko:)
Are you saying they should lift all/most restrictions for pubs ?

Sorry mark - can you clarify?

What do you mean by renegade?

Most, I didn't know Marstons had gone renegade when I posted. They are not asking for customer details nor making mask wearing for their staff mandatory. Because they know it will put off customers and there will be no point in them opening unless thay can turn a profit. Act sensibly and with the % of infected people today (outside of hospital & care homes) at 0.04% risk is pretty much infinesimal.

I was in Leeds again today, all the street food stalls open, all dead at lunchtime when I'd normally find queues. Even if I'd bought something. they've removed every single chair & table, now there are also signs everywhere saying all purchased food has to be taken outside to be eaten. It was raining. Hello?^_^

Not sure if I already said this but my morning walk took me past a local pub. It was done up just before this lock down and looks good. All the outside tables are set up with some being "out of use".

Same near me but that is not going to work out in Leeds, party central, it's going to be really hard for bar staff & security, it could do with raining heavily Saturday:smile:. Even so, I know exactly what will happen near me, Apperley Bridge/Thackley/Idle, a quite insular "everybody knows everybody" area, the same as what happens at work, no social distancing whatsover....because...."we are mates".:okay:

Contrary to the regime i saw posted on a spoons on a ride on sunday, have seen some press reports today that spoons will be asking folks to give personal details. Rather odd.

My understanding was that Weatherspoons were going to accept orders by app only so they would have a contact phone number for all customers. Costa loyalty cards or National Trust membership cards could also be used to record contact details for customers.

The info they have had posted on doors for some time, and PRed into the press says folk will be encouraged to use the app, but that cash will be taken. App not compulsory.

Good for them, because we are hurtling up a dead end street at 150mph if any other normal than normal is ok.

For your info @MarkF it appears that the spoons at Leeds station won't be re-opening on the 4th - probably just as well - it's always been packed whenever I've been killing time there.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
the % of infected people today (outside of hospital & care homes) at 0.04%
That was the figure over a week ago....

Who knows what it is now. The thing about this epidemic is that people get infected and infectious a good week before symptoms show up, and it spreads like buggery without restrictions.

Idiots in the pub putting the world to rights. They're rushing coming out of lock down they'll say as they sip on their Strongbow dark fruits.

Personally I'm expecting many town centres to descend into chaos; the seal broken on three months on pub embargo appealing to the desperate drinkers, virus-deniers and generally less responsible end of the social spectrum...

I can see all social distancing going out of the window once a few jars have been sunk in familiar surroundings; attempts by staff and other patrons to remind drinkers of their obligations and responsibilities likely to be met with increasing resentent and belligerence as the drink continues to flow; espeically against a backdrop of anxiety and uncertainty about the future of many.

I'm quite tempted to go for a ride through town tomorrow night to see if it all descends into chaos as predicted, but I have absolutely zero desire to get back to a fiver plus per pint to sit in a stale, neutered and controlled enviroment, have my details collected by the man and all (IMO) at a greater risk of getting battered by some angry drunken knuckle-dragger...

Conversely I do very much want a haircut, but am uncomfortable about occupying the small, enclosed, high-turnover environment of my usual barber without a mask (I imagine administering a haircut with one in place would prove challenging..). Again will probably float past occasionally in the week once it's open to gauge crowds and risk - it's popular at the best of times and personally I reckon it's going to be rammed for the next two weeks at least..

That is a right rowdy pub! Quite a few places (big chains) had signs up yesterday stating they were not opening until next week. I think that is a good move, it'd be too much to control for the bar staff and security. I expect all the indie bars to trade as normal, it's an opportunity and they need the cash.
