Sorry to drag up an old thread, I just thought I'd mention that I survived!
I wasn't expecting a picnic, however it was still a little tougher than I'd expected. However, I'm pleased to say that other than about 20 yards on the first day, I cycled the lot.
I can now also relate to some of the comments given earlier, as beforehand names like Garrigill and Crawleyside Bank didn't mean much. Deary me... they do now
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to everyone who offered advice.

Well done! :wahhey:

What bike did you go for in the end?

(Anything on or east of the Pennines that is called a 'bank' is steep. And I mean steep. But you know that now...)

Found myself a nice second hand (I say second hand as opposed to used, as it was so little used it still had the cellophane on the badge) Carrera Subway, as recommended on this site, and put on a pair of Schwalbe City Jets, also as recommended on this site. Both served me well, so thanks to whoever offered their wisdom. And yes, the word 'bank' will forever be synonymous with 'oh dear...'.

:bravo: well done Nemesis hope you enjoyed the trip you will be ready for a Lejog next:whistle:
After a quick google... err... no  Ha ha, but since my legs have recovered, I have been driving through the Pennines today for work, and I've found myself looking at the hills thinking "if I had my bike, I could get up that!", so you never know!

I now have only 6 weeks to go before I start the C2C.
sadly had a back injury for the last 3 weeks, I am almost ready to get back to it.

Really glad you enjoyed it , maybe enough people round these parts to have a little ride out together :becool:
