I am going to be using my husbands cheapo Raleigh MTB as a commuter.

Today I put on thinner city tyres and mudguards. When I went out to test the bike, the rear derailleur is not shifting at all. It was okay before the tyre change, so I'm guessingI did something to it accidently.

Can any one advise me on how to get it working again?

Many thanks!!!

Check the outer cable is still in the mounts on the frame - might have jumped out when you took the rear wheel off (shouldn't have done mind).
Does the lever pull any cable or is it just solid?

Not much detail to go on, but initially I would take the rear wheel off and put it back on again and see if that helps. Can you move the derailer by hand?

Thanks - I am SUCH an idiot!  I took off the kickstand to clean the frame and the stand. When I put it back on I somehow got the cable under the part where the stand attaches to the frame.

Thanks for your help.  ;)

Easily done.

I've done it myself at least once, was using a workstand and clamped the cable against the frame. Had me confused for a good while.

Good luck with the commute.
