Surley cross check????
Versatile is the word.

Both Keep pedelling(Northernquarter) and Bicycle doc(right next to Hardys Well Fallowfield/curry mile) have them in.

I'm seriously comsidering it for my next bike but with an 8 speed internal hub.

The only possible problem is you have a choice of black.....duck egg blue or poo coloured brown(gravy they call it).

Beef gravy??? Might play havoc with your SED Gaz ;)

I too like the look of the Halfords one, mentioned earlier by lejogger, if I finally make my mind up about my next bike then that could be on my short list, along with a tourer type one, oh and a carbon one too

Did they put a braze on rear canti hanger on that yet?

Considered it for my build, went Trucker instead (don't go *serious* off road, didn't need the in between spacing at the rear - no difference in frame weight worth mentioning).

just had cycling active delivered , it has a small feature on the Boardman cx, highly recommends it. I think it will be my next bike.

Today is decision day for me, I have a short list of 3 bikes (partly due to what I can test locally!) to become my new commuter.

Good luck with your choice. Have you considered Focus? I know you want to actually test them locally, but you can get Focus bikes on a 30 day test ride, and for value for money nothing can touch them. If you check the specs of the Mares range they knock spots off anything else in the same price range, but I fully appreciate you may just want to buy one off the peg.

I just thought you may want to consider them, if you do see HERE,if you don't that's great too

The AX2 does look like a nice bike, and your right, the spec is pretty darn good as well. Maybe if I don't fall in love with any of the 3 I'm off to see today I will see about at least trying it out.

At the moment I'm thinking it'll be either the Tricross or the Boardman. But it's going to be a tough choice, unless one of them feels so much better which I doubt.

Good luck with the hunt. I bought a Giant TCX 1 last week. It is a fantastic bike and the geometry is really good for me at 5' 11".

My second choice was the Tricross - don't forget that Specialized have dropped the price by 10-15% this week (depending on model) which should be reflected in the store price.

I was looking at one today. Looked pretty good I thought, not the highest of specs but decent and a comfy looking position.

Ended up with a Tricross, a very un-eventful day till the end. The Giant I didn't like the look of so didn't bother taking it for a test (the blue writing on it just made it look cheap IMO), the Boardman looked great, but Halfords wouldn't let me take it for a ride, saying they don't allow test rides; even though I'd phoned them earlier in the week and was told I could come in and test it! Then the last LBS had a Tricross 2010 which I took for a spin and it felt good, slight bit of the reported break judder but nothing I couldn't live with, the LBS then offered me a deal I couldn't say no too - £530 with sks mudguards fitted. Picking it up Tuesday when my work scheme paperwork is sorted.
