I've only had this one since January this year, but use her daily either for commuting to work or just for pleasure. Lovely bike,on road or along canal paths/up the woods/along old railway lanes turned into cycle paths.

This is my general commuting bike if it's just to work and back.

This one (now with rack fitted) if I take a longer ride home or if the giant has a puncture that I didn't notice till I went to get the bike out!! Twice now.

And then this (with a seat post rack) if rain is on its way as the brakes are outstanding!!

If it's raining in the morning then I generally take the car. I also don't ride in snow/ice.

Rides a Pinnacle Arkose 3 and a Trek Emonda SL6
Take a look at the Pinnacle Arkose and the Pinnacle Dolomite. I bought the 2015 Arkose 3 in Autumn 2014 and I am very impressed with it. Depending on which model you go for they are all pretty much around your budget and fit the description of what you are after. My only complaints with the Arkose 3 where the bar tape, easily changed and before I went clipless my heel would occasionally strike the rear brake caliper. This years Arkose 3 come with the new 105 hydraulic brakes.

My decision making process can be found here:

Lots of similar suggestions that might help on that link.

I also didn't like the Kenda Small Block 8 tyres, found them to be puncture magnets, moved to Continental GP 4 seasons but think I might try tubeless next here she is in all her greeness before I changed the bar tape, tyres, pedals and added bottle cages and full mudguards
