Hi,

Just interested to know if anyone knows what grade carbon is used in the moulds for the sl pro from Planet X.

I know Ribble list the frame construction etc but Planet X dont seem to, is it T700 unidirectional single tubes ? like the other cheaper end carbon frames (no disrespect intended as im in the market to buy one)

I was reading the latest Bike Radar review and was a bit put of by all the mention of flex I know that is a side issue but thought cant find anywhere what carbon grade they use etc.

Many Thanks

Sadly I can't answer your question regarding the grade of carbon on a PX. I can tell you from experience of owning one for the last couple of years that does flex. To be fair, I didn't really notice this until today when I took a Cube for a test ride!

The guys at Planet X are very helpful and always respond quickly to any queries. If you aren't sure, then try and track someone down that owns one.. there are loads out there! Feel free to drop me a line if you want any other thoughts/help.

Thanks for the replies all. TBH I've ordered one, but have only recently come across the recent bike radar review etc and delved a litte deeper from there. I was aware that people used to say the front flexes but thought the revised forks had solved that ? Now I'm just confused and worried I'm 12stone 7lbs and wouldn't say a stomper but don't want something that will zap my confidence when desceding etc.

Rather than upgrade the sl pro I would have gone fr the nano stock and took my time but it's to late now !

I know people that race on P-X SL Pros and race well so they can't be that bad.

My only issue with them is that they're fugly.

I went to the P-X showroom with the intention of buying one and ended up with a Nanolight High Mod (that cost considerably more

I have a P-X SL Pro from 2007 and I'm 12 and a half-ish stone. I'm no professional but it has descended perfectly well for me over the years. And once I get to 70+kph I've always had more to worry about than any flexing :-)
I love it.

Well I'll stick with the sl pro as I've ordered it just waiting for some items to come into stock.

If the front flex is bad and I really doubt I'll notice then I'll upgrade the forks !. I was reading somewhere where some one was standing on the pedals whilst stationary and could feel the bb flexing ! Im not sure if that's normal but it doesn't inspire me with to much confidence.

I say again, if it was that bad people wouldn't be racing on the SL Pro.

I got an SL Pro in December and one thing I noticed is that it's a really stable descender. I've not noticed any undue flex or any tendency to shimmy.

Good stuff, im not going to worry about it.

It would seem that this has manifested itself amongst people as a negative on what seems to be a great deal. Its like people are looking for the catch and focus on this when slating the bike, most of which is probably due to the fact they feel the need to justify paying allot more for their own bikes.

After the comments above I spoke to someone yesterday who races elite in Spain on the sl pro and although he is a feather weight he has not noticed anything unto-wards whatsoever . I am sure it does flex a little compared with some newer frames but dont think its to much of a problem.
