I like to stop (gives me an excuse on the hills ^_^) every now and then to take photos. However, becoming a bit disillusioned with iphone photos. I live in beautiful Northumberland and some of the scenery is stunning so looking for a camera that will convey that. Dont want to take my big heavy DSLR so are there any small compact cameras anyone would recommend for landscape shots that would fit in a top tube bag?
Budget prob max £300

I don’t know enough to recommend a camera, but get one with a viewfinder and not an lcd screen if you can, I had a lovely canon, took nice photos but the problem was in bright daylight I couldn’t see what I was taking.

Samsung S or A series phone then ! Really Samsung are fabulous ! Your other option is a decent compact camera - circa £200-£300. My wife has a Panasonic 'something or other' that I bought her a couple of years ago, but she takes most pictures on her S7/now A9 Samsung phone. The camera was great, but it's more bulky than a phone.

My son is perfectly happy with Samsung's photos - he has the S8 Plus, but also Cannon 700D and an 800D cameras and a DJI Osmo, and he rates the Samsungs for snap pics.

Me, love my S7 Edge for pictures, no complaints.

What about a small mirrorless that you could use your dslr lenses with? Phones are so handy, hope @delb0y won't mind me posting his ace phone photo again....

12mp will produce a 9x14" print at 300dpi. No need for any more pixels.
I am always willing to sacrifice the telephoto end of the lens range for a wider wideangle. Equiv 25mm is a useful one. The actual mm depend on the sensor size which can vary.
I like viewfinders like on my old canon Powershot A20 (and also vari angle screen) but my Canon Powershot S200 doesn't have one. It works fine.
I don't think any one company is better than others. Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Nikon, Olympus all make decent models.
Connectivity can be a PITA. If you get an older model, check which version of SD card is compatible.
Scour the new/old stock (NOS) of camera shops for bargains.
I picked up my Canon after zero market research, in an airport duty free shop. I just liked the controls, build quality and trusted the name. I always prefer Canon compact cameras but never got on with their D/SLR models.

Not at all, Grant :-)

For what it's worth I've just ordered a Panasonic GX80. I have tiny little Panasonic GM1 that I've been carrying around with me when cycling but it has no viewfinder - and I struggle without one. That picture above, taken on the phone, I had no idea what I was taking because all I could see was my own reflection. I get this with phones and also with the GM1 - so I've been waiting for the GX80 to get down to reasonable low second hand levels and now I've ordered one.

I have a variety of cameras and lenses, but I'm hoping the GX80 will be the perfect cycling/walking/travel partner. We shall see!
