The work of Samuel Mockbee's Rural Studio

.

Anything designed by Japanese architect, Ban Shigeru

- a lot of his work involves paper, cardboard and bamboo.

Renzo Piano's astonishingly beautiful Tjibaou Cultural Centre (New Caledonia - in the Pacific)

These two houses are quite wonderful in different ways:

Stone house in Portugal

Cob House in British Columbia.

However I really appreciate some big modernist housing schemes too - but they have to be very skillfully designed, like Habitat-67 in Montreal.

And The Museum of Modern Art in Rio by Oscar Niemeyer is proper futuristic jet-packs-and-moving walkways architecture - fabulous!

(all from unusual-architecture.com - quite a fun collection)

Only one vote for the Taj Mahal? I am surprised.

I went there a few years ago, and despite thinking familiarity would breed contempt, I have to say that it took my breath away. Absolutely magnificent.

I've seen the Stone House! It's very strange but in a really fun way!

PS - don't forget that 5mm wetsuit if you go to Portugal!
