What bits do you lubricate when you've washed your bike and what do you lube it with?

I tend to give the shifters, mechs, pedals (spd's) and any exposed cables a quick squirt with WD40 to get rid of any water then wipe off the excess. I also use a wipe of grease around the hubs to add some protection and I usually grease the seatpost.

Am I doing it right/wrong? Do you do anything different?

If it moves oil/grease it
If it doesn't paint it
If it is liable to walk nail it down ;)

If it dosn't move, don't use WD40 on it.
If it does move, still don't use WD40 on it!
If it says WD40 on it, throw it away! ;0)

Don't beleive the pictures on the tin. WD40 is not a very good lubricant and is good for no part of a bike. In fact WD40 sprayed on pedals etc is more likely to wash out any nice lubricant that might be in there!

Use proper bike oils and greases, I like Finish Line stuff but to be honest there are many kinds and it's up to you to see what you like the best.

I use Finish Line Cross Country on the chain, mech pivots and shifters. I also run some inside the cable outers. Things like headsets, pedals and hubs need grease. Use bike-specific water-resistant ones.

Take care when washing your bike not to get too much water in the oily bits and preasure washers are altogether dodgy.
