Hi all. Looking to start cycling seeing as my rugby career has ended!

Don't want to go nuts in case it's not for me. What would you recommend?

I have approx £500 to spend.

Thanks

Decathlon are in the process of introducing this years models and the specs are different. If you go for the Triban 3 be sure to get last years red version as it has a better spec than the white 2013 version.

If they don't have the red one in your size, consider the Triban 5.

Decathlon website for details.

I would say the Triban has the better groupset (Sora, but both have the thumb button I think?), the Giant the better frame

I abhor black bikes so it'd have to be the Giant for me ;)

One is a compact the other is a triple, that is something to take into consideration. I was a bit worried about switching from a triple to a compact and have only had to stop twice so far (once on box hill 40 miles into a ride the other time on a steep old ramp on a lane after a 2 mile steady climb) so i would still say go for the defy.

triban 5 running the new sora shifters so paddles no buttons if it was my money it would be the triban just know if you plan to do some serious riding that you will need to upgrade stuff down the line .... wheels tyres etc.
