we are new to road bikes & are recreational users not racer or club, looking for a reasonable spec at under £900. So far we have looked at Specialized Secteur Sport Triple & Giant Defy 3, any ideas which would be the better option?

Either are brilliant. My advice would be to get to an LBS and try them on a turbo for fit and go from there

as a new rider i would get along to your lbs and see what fits your use and your geometry, they will set you up on a turbo ,advice you to your needs ,set up the bike and then maintain bike till you have more bike savy, have a look at specs once you have found a frame that fits you,the defy might be great fit for you as it is for me,i wanted a full 105 set up and a full carbon set up so i paid for that ,but as anew rider the frame and set up is paramount for your enjoyment,a bike shop will also be prepared to add items suck as clip less pedals and set up as you go through your cycling journey so establishing your relationship as i have is a good thing

Defy 2 would be better bike and easily available for £850-£900
aye - giant drop their prices 20+% when the new livery comes out, even if the tech isn't changing on the new bike - as i found out when i went to get my TCR expecting to pay £1300 odd only to find out that they'd dropped it by just over £200 cos the new ones were out in 3 months or so...WINNER!

Take a look at Moda bikes Paul. There are some good deals on 2012 Rubato and Bolero bikes at around this price point. Great value, good spec and really good support from the guys at Moda. I've just picked up a 2013 Bolero via the C2W scheme and it is just drop dead gorgeous.

Any bike from the big names will be fine i.e cannondale ,trek, scott, specialized, giant, bianchi the list is almost endless. It will come down to which grabs you the most. There is a fair chance that whatever you buy you will want to change something on it , usually the saddle. Go to the biggest bike store you can find as they will have more models in. Good luck
