Not to be a killjoy but it does not have to be steel. Ask Mark Beaumont or Nicolai Bangsgaard, both RTWers on Koga Alu bikes. I agree steel is easier to weld but in reality, how many frames do these RTWers break? I have read dozens of bike books but have not read where someone has broken a frame. Racks yes, frames no. But I know it does happen, but it must take some effort.

I agree Steve, some think "What if it"? when others think "Why should it"?

Why build up? I just bought one of these for £200, it is in excellent condition, it only took me a week to find after I'd decided to buy such a bike and there were plenty of similar bikes out there. I'd go RTW on it without thinking I needed upgrades, it's a strong simple bike.

Good luck to the OP.:okay:

Thats a really good buy Mark and I could go RTW with that bike. I think you are like me and like to change bits and pieces to make it comfortable for me.

On the bike in the photo, all I would do is change the saddle, add butterfly bars and bar bag and I would be ready to go.
