There's something about some of those older books that never fails me. My grandfather worked in a large printing works and I grew up reading copies of books he had "borrowed".

Reminiscing now, but my grandparents kept all their old books in a cupboard in the room I'd stay in when I visited. Big enough for me to fit in, and there was a lamp. Bliss!

I've got a stack of Enid Blytons that I've been eyeing up with a mind to re-reading them. Haven't read them since I was about ten, so that'll be a bit of a nostalgia trip.
They're mostly "The xxx of Adventure" and the St Clare series.

They're a lot of fun. I liked Secret Seven too when I was younger, Faraway Tree too. I've never read any of her adult books which I should remedy.

Thanks, didn't realise he'd written another book, really enjoyed If Chins Could Kill. Will read that one.
Currently reading the Silo Trilogy, on book 2 "Shift". Just thought would try them as thought the TV series was the best thing I'd watched for ages. The books are better though, usually don't read fiction but these are top notch.

I've just rang up (the Wakefield branch of) Waterstones to order another book
Quite surprisingly it seems that it's on the shelves, so they've reserved it for me

Just finished Blackout by Simon Scarrow. It's ok, but he's no Philip Kerr and just seems to have come up with a similar character to Bernie Gunther, but without any of the deep plots, twists or wise cracking humour.
