It's a bit more complicated than that...
In actual use, in London - Public hire bikes and Bromptons.

I live in the Countryside so most of the bikes I see are either mountain bikes or hybrids. In the summer months touring bikes loaded up with panniers make an appearance, there are a number of road racing clubs in the area, the ones with carbon frames and the Sky team logos, down here we call them the sponsored sperm riders, I have no idea why they are called that. In a nutshell we have an eclectic mix of bikes.

In our household we have;
5 road bikes
4 hybrids
1 MTB
1 folder

I therefore deduce that road bikes are the most popular types of bikes (in my house anyway)

What is more amazing is that only 6 of those bikes are mine...

Definitely Mountain Bicycle Shaped Objects, normally with bone dry rusty chains and only 1 brake working generally ridden on the pavement by someone who has their seat far too low so their knees stick out sideways (a riding style known as the 'crapping dog')
Other than that there are allsorts really.
Def true in this neck of the woods ,and riding through red lights .

Went in for my health testing for commercial vehicle driving, wound up talking to the physicians' assistant and nurse about cycling, that's just the kind of town this is.

Around my area there are definitely more MTB bikes around but there are great MTB locations close by in Pebbles and the Pentlands however great road riding country too.

Depends on the local availability and demographics

In a commuter belt with reasonable income and a good stockist then Bromptons will be common, in other areas you won't see one.

That will be "Peebles" then ?
Giant and Cube have a very big following here.
There is an LBS which sells Cube and Giant bikes.
Go figure.
It might explain why I got a nervous tick, when @Accy cyclist could not decide between a Cube and a Giant.
On the locals part,it shows to me that they have a complete lack of imagination.

The good ones are kept in the house and hopefully they'd find the children before the bikes.

The others are in the garage, which is alarmed and big locks are also used. There are sacrificial bikes left unlocked in there too.

Ours are kept in the house too as we don't possess a garden or a shed

in my area it seems to be road bikes but a nod to MTB bikes as more and more popping up.

I only have 2 bikes sadly but ones a roadie and ones a MTB. Specialized and Cannondale respectively. To answer your question I dont know :-)

Strange how local cycling cultures diverge, isn't it? Here's a typical Lynn town centre bike park...
