What are disc brakes supposed to sound like?

I've had the new bike for a month, my first experience of discs. They make a sort of buzzy, fizzy sound when I put them on hard. Is that normal?

Mine make some weird almost electrical oscillation sound at certain speeds, only had them on a month too and was wondering a bit if its normal too.

to be honest, I'd be more worried about their ability to stop you - rather than whatever noise they happen to be making.....

Still part of the team !
Mine make more noise when I've cleaned the bike. After a few miles they (usually) quieten down.
The "zzzzzzing" noise that I think you're describing is normal.
Compare it to the noise of rim brakes in the wet.

Which would you rather have ?

Mine sometimes make a sort of "scuffing" sound (usually towards the end of a ride when they've picked up loads of dust, grit and debris). The front one has been known to produce a lovely musical note, which I seem to appreciate more than anyone else does!

If the zzzzing is normal (BTW I think there are only 4 zeds in zzzzing) then I'm happy. Certainly don't miss the rim brakes, especially in the recent monsoons.
