I use Sports Tracker, mainly because it's free and because it's also available on the Nokia which usually gets used as my bike computer.

the cheapest garmin edge is about £100,very accurate but sure there are cheaper alternatives
Bryton 20 is good less than £100, also options for HR and sp/cad, but no breadcrumb, the 40 I think I saw about the £130.
Endomondo is a better than strava for logging rides, as you can export both tcx and gpx files, and timings see better, strava I think uses different times for actual ride time to that recorded by my garmin.
Todays ride Garmin Time 1:53:51 moving time 1:53:33 elapsed time 2:26:35
Strava Moving time 1:54:21 elapsed time 2:26:32 so you can see that the avg speed will be lower 16.6mph compared with 16.7mph on garmin
Endomondo figures are 1:53:51,
Also Strav's elevation data leaves a lot to be desired.

Strava for me at the moment as I haven't got a spare £250 for the Garmin 800 - I shall probably ask Santa for that ;)

As I'm only recording my time then I'm accepting the supposed errors in Strava and hoping they will be consistent errors if you follow that.
Strava distance equates pretty closely with BikeRouteToaster distance when I've checked that - if that one is reliable anyway
Also I ride in fairly flat Suffolk so most of the climbs are not really climbs anyway so the elevation gains are usually only about 10ft/mile !

RunKeeper on the iPhone is fairly good as it covers a number of different activities, great for people who run as well as cycle!

Bit of a daft question time but here goes.

I use endomondo to track my rides but I upload the .gpx files to strava because I like the records on segments (not that I'm likely to set any myself! Yet...) anyway my daft question is why when using the endomondo info does strava show slightly different mileage and speeds to endomondo (usually strava is shorter and slower) - surely the base data is the same?!

It gets complex, from what I can work out strava uses different timings
