If you ride fast enough your body will generate enough heat to keep you relatively warm. But a lightweight vented wind/waterproof over your appropriate clothing imho is a worthwile addition. Aldi are selling them in a couple of weeks, they were only about a tenner last year and fit well in the backpocket of a jersey. Also decent overshoes as your feet are the hardest part of your body to keep warm.
The other thing I would recommend in the rain is mudguards if you can fit them on your bike. It is much nicer cycling in the rain with mudguards both for you and those around you.
Thanks, i will look out, as i'm going to be needing additional gear soon, As only be wearing items once then washing them, Yes, Mud-guards are on my list!! ......... My LONG list! lol

I use a dare 2b windproof jacket and when its really cold a buff under my helmet and round my neck. Long thermal underwear and gloves.

When it gets really cold and wet I just use me car

Ah, cheers for that! Didn't know they existed. Tempting. Norm was sporting a bamboo item recently, also supposed to be pretty good, also with strange powers. Who 'wood' have thought it?

I got the baked alaska about 5 years ago and it is an exceptional piece of kit. Mind you it does have to get down to zero degrees before I will wear it otherwise you overcook.

My cap is my favourite item..

I can be soaked down to me grundies, but when I'm wearing me hat, I don't seem to feel it so much...
Me too, always wear a cap/hat when it's raining, keeps a lot of the rain out of your eyes and makes the ride a bit more comfortable.
I have one of those Aldi lightweight jackets too, perfect for those showery days , or to stick on when it turns a bit cooler.
