Wet Biking

Just cancelled my Sky Ride for this Sunday as the weather forecast gives a 90% chance of rain. Now if I'm out on a ride it rains and I get soaked so be it but I'm buggered if I'll go out into the rain to get soaked would you?

Seriously, it depends on the mood and the reason - going to the shop or something - yes - a long pleasure ride -probably not.

Its quite refreshing cycling in the rain...especially in this hot weather. I might think twice about going out for a quick blat but I would still go ahead with an organised ride if I had entered.

Whilst I was in a physio regime over the past year I had no real choice, unless I wanted to do an hour on the turbo trainer(no thanks, rather gnaw me own leg off).
Then I got better, and still happy to ride in the rain. As @JoeyB says, quite nice at this time of year.
Now I laid up again, so look forward to more wet cycling when my physio lets me. Hopefully not too far away...

I don't mind being out in the rain; the bit I hate is cleaning and drying the bike off afterwards. Would I cancel an organised ride due to rain? No chance!

Well about 24000 people will be on Sunday for Ride 100

(including myself but I am a volunteer marshal and can hopefully hold a brolly as required)!

Being caught out in the rain doesn't bother me but leaving home when there is heavy rain is not always so easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't cancel 48 hours before on the strength of a weather forecast. UK weather is so fickle I would wait until Sunday morning look skywards and decide then.

If it's light rain I'll head out in it but if it's heavy, no way!

If you've got a bike you don't mind taking out in the mud and rain, then there's plenty to enjoy riding in pretty much any weather. Stick on a waterproof (make sure its breathable or small enough to roll up and stuff in a jersey pocket) and get out there, bet you'll think you made the right choice ten miles in.

The only thing that keeps me off the bike is ice on the road... though I've had to make some hair raising commutes to work even then :S
