Weird blob appears on tyre

I have continental sports ultra tyres on the bianchi (came withthe bike). I seem to hav eovercome the puncture barrage with double layer of rim tape but now there is a weird blob on the rear tyre. It looks like the rubber has a weak spot at the pressure inside is forcing the tyre out at that point. I deflated and re inflated and it is still there. Also the edge of the tyre that clinches into the rim keeps coming out of the rim at that point.

So is there a work around ( need this bike to ride tomorrow!) or is it simply a case of cruddy tyres?

I have to say I am at the heavier end of the weight scale at 98 kilos but I know heavier riders so..???

Any thoughts from the gallery peeps?

Ta in advance:smile:

That tyre could go bang. I would put a "boot" off some sort between the tyre and the tube at the weak spot to prevent this from happening.

ok..so I'm right in thinking it's a weak tyre then right?..any thoughts as to what causes this kind of thing?
I need to splash out on some tyres soon anyway an Miche pro 3 are top of the list, but at £60 a pair I jus twant to make sure they wont suffer the same fate

Hard to say. Manufacturing defect, something went through it to weaken it, perhaps it took a knock on a pot hole or something or did you ride the bike with the tyre a bit on the soft side.

Looking at it it seems the clincher rim of the tyre is frayed along a 2 inch stretch...hmm I'm wondering if I damaged it with my tyre lever when trying to fit the wrong bloody tubes that the LBS sold me...was a bit of a struggle.

Haven't conti tyres got a bit of a reputation for doing this? I vaguely remember people on here saying something along those lines when puddleglums tyre disintegrated at the seam last year when it was pretty new.. (I might be mixing this up with something else, so don't quote me on it...)

I had the same problem with 2 newish 700 x 25 continetal sports contact tyres. The sidewall just came away the beading !!

I had a similar problem with a Vredstein Fortezza Tricomp. I think it's the threads of the carcass under the rubber tearing, either through cack-handedness with tyre levers when fitting or through hitting big potholes. Bin it, especially if it's having problems staying on the rim. Your life is worth more than 20 quids worth of rubber.
