Well I since there is not such thing as a stupid question I have something that might qualify. I dont claim to know a lot about bikes but I have never heard of one being waxed, or am I just way out of the loop on such things? I have ordered a bike from the USA and have had to wait for it to be powder-coated, built etc etc but the guy doing it for me said that at the end the bike is going to be waxed. I have never heard of such a thing so was just curious. Ta

Me neither! Is that yankie for a coat of lacquer?

Just hope it doesn't turn up with a wick sticking out the top of your headset

A coat of wax on a bike or a car is very worthwhile to repel moisture better and make it easier to clean.

Well thanks for the useful comments, also the not-so useful ones, like the candle one :-).

Well I have learnt something new today and because both my bikes are quite collectable (if you are into cruiser style bikes) then I might invest in some more wax and do it myself.

Thanks all, I like this forum, everyone seems friendly and helpful

I use car turtle wax on my bikes - they look and feel amazing afterwards; but don't get it on the plastic or rubber parts!

I washed my bike in waxy car shampoo once, got it on the tyres and it made the dynamo slip. Thankfully that was easily cured by replacing the dynamo wheel. It's probably not a good idea to get wax on brake blocks or rims either.

i use autoglym to wash the bike and then when its dry give it wipe over with either the super resin polish soaked cloth from when i used to wax the cars or a WD40 soaked rag it does make the bike shine somewhat. and they are both as good as each other as a lube

God it's like been on the valeting site I'm a member of lol!!
If you wax a bike it will just be the same as a car make water bead and when you come to wash the bike it will clean up nice (stops any muck sticking)
But to be honest didn't think you could use products like them on bikes??
If any one is looking for a top of the range wax/sealant go on the net and look for collinite 476s or 915 it's the best also finish kare 1000p I use them on cars as I'm a car valeter (mobile)!!
