Waterproofing a jacket

After Fridays ride home in rain of biblical quantities,my faithful Altura night vision jacket let a large quantity of rain in on the sleeves and odd other areas.
Have any of you successfully re proofed them.And what product/method please?

I use Nikwax on my Keela gear to excellent effect.

Another vote for Nikwax - chuck it in the washer, let it dry and your work is done.

Nothing has has worked permanently for me. I come from a background of sailing and working in the outdoors. Nothing is truly watertight and water always will get in near the neck or wrists. The driest kit isn’t suitable for cycling.

I just update now and consider rain gear a necessary disposable.

My old Sprayway Goretex jacket, bought in the mid 90s, owed me nothing so I sprayed it with Thompson's Water Seal thinking it would either kill or cure the jacket. Once dried it went a bit stiff but now it feels more supple than ever and water still beads and runs off. I just can't seem to kill it.

I use Nikwax Techwash and then their waterproofing stuff. Seems OK on my wet weather cycling and hiking gear.

@wisdom check the washing instructions. With some rain jackets a wash followed by drying on cool in the tumble dryer will reproof.

I've no idea how!!

Yes, washing by hand using the Nikwax products (first wash, then proof).
I do this with my 3 year old Night Vision every 6 months.
In between, I wash it maybe every 2 months, in the washing machine, standard non bio detergent.
Seems to work: mind, some water always seems to enter via the neck area if the downpour is really heavy, I suppose that can't be helped.
