Waterproof overshoes?

Are there any that are really waterproof?

I have some endura neoprene ones and they weren't too bad but yesterday was just too much for them, when I got home and removed them and then the shoes I managed to tip a good drop of rain out.

Any suggestions please?

It runs down your leg and into them. The best you can hope for is delaying the inevitable really, as long as they stay warm as neoprene does, that's the goal. Waterproofing your legs might help, and leave your trousers over the top of the overshoes if that's what you wear.

Nope, none are waterproof.

This is due to a major flaw.
There are holes in the top where you foot goes in and the bottom where the cleats are.

Neoprene is not really waterproof anyway.
The function of neoprene is to keep you warm. Even if letting water in.

Overshoes will help keep your feet drier for longer, however they won't keep your feet dry.

Neoprene itself actually is waterproof, it's those aforementioned entry holes that aren't. Once water gets in one of them it can easily get out. It holds warmth with its excellent thermal insulation, that bit of water stuck in there stays warm from your body heat and keeps you warm as a result.

So what do people use to keep dry well dry to a comfortable extent ? Any good over trousers out there that people use ? I for one cant afford to make mistakes in purchasing crap pairs until i find a decent pair.

Neoprene is 100% waterproof, ask any drysuit wearer. It's the stitching and seals that leak if not sealed etc.

Just ordered goretex booties as fed up with wet cold feet. Hope they do the job,

as mentioned earlier - keeping 'dry' is not an option. Keeping warm is all that matters really. Sean Yates used to ride in a wetsuit in wet winter weather for this reason - bit extreme but there we are...

Freezer bag over the front part of the foot, then overshoe mate. You know my feet were dry until i went through a huge standing puddle near Langley

Yes your right thanks i suppose yesterday i got beyond wet so was just asking the question to the broad wealth of knowledge on here.
No worries. Something to keep in mind as well is just how little it actually rains. We seem to have days of rain followed by lots of dampness and stuff. However the actual "full on" falling water is pretty rare.
If you cant afford to get it wrong then I'd just opt for £15 overshoes maybe a £50 jacket and and layers that you can use all year round.

wearing too much else makes you so hot that you are soaked from the inside out before the rain does a job on the outside bits.

Sorry for keeping check on these things :rain:

There you go. Ian has done the maths (best not to ask why:blush:) and you now know to spend no more than 12.5% of your annual clothing budget on wet weather gear.

Is there nothing Cyclechat cant help us with?
