I never need the silicone. Just the hole worked and stayed waterproof for me

Unlike the Quadlock, which cable ties to the stem, the Topeak bracket is hinges. So I’d angle it slightly up in rain, so any water would just roll off and give the connectors a little more protection.

One of the better parts of the Topeak is the mount/bracket. It’s metal and can be stem cap mounted. You replace your stem cap with the base of the mount/bracket. It’s a nice clean look and the mount/bracket is physical screwed into the bike. The mount is never going to fall off.

The Topeak weatherproof case has hinged rubber stoppers for both the power and jack port. It’s difficult to find a picture of them online. Here is the iPhone5 version with some better pictures. On this case the two covers are the yellow parts at the base of the case. It also comes with a sheath (last picture) that goes on the lightening cable end to help seal it into the case.

If you go the Topeak route and stem cap mount it, just be careful when you’re tightening the stem cap bolt up.

You’re screwing it into the star nut and you don’t want to over tightening that. You just want to make the stem cap bolt tight enough the mounts hinge is moveable but also stay put when you’ve adjusted/move it.
