I know you should wash base layers bibs socks ect, but should you wash your jacket and gloves, i asked a couple of bikers this question and they said they never washed jackets and gloves,
Is this the normal.:biggrin::wacko:

My gloves stink after about 10 rides. I wash them and my sweaty beanie about then.

I wash everything including waterproofs, gloves, overshoes. The lot.

You'll be wanting a non detergent washing liquid for your waterproofs, Nikwax do one. Don't wash them too often though.

A friend has an expensive Endura eVent jacket and got advised to wash it weekly and just used normal washing powder. It's now about as waterproof as a tea towel.

Ask yourself, are bikers normal? Of course they aren't. They don't wash their hair or those grizzly goatees either. They only polish their Harley Davidsons.

Cyclists on the other hand usually practice a modicum of personal hygiene.

My jacket needs a wash after only 2-3 rides. If it is not from sweat smell, it is from general road muck. Gloves become a cyclist's hankie on the road and become disgusting quite quickly. Wash from time to time.

Don't put anything with exposed velcro in the washine machine with your best bibshorts - no need to add anything more, it nearly caused a divorce.

Have just washed my jacket and then found it's too warm to need it. Have never worn gloves except occasionally ski-type gloves in the depths of winter when commuting. Cycling gloves are a revolting practice but that's just my opinion, you do what you want.

Gloves are synthetic mainly now - I wash mine once or twice a week..weather dependant..... Waterproofs are washed with soda crystals/simple soap when needed - not too often....though...

Daily stuff is washed every day.....

I wash all my stuff on a 30 degree wash and use ecoballs. No good on oil/grease so I smear eco-stain remover on that. Works well and no problems with waterproof/water resistant materials. Go on... save the planet

Use the Nikwax stuff for anything waterproof or resistant - stick it all in one wash every few weeks. There's 2 or 3 different brands of Techwash type stuff iirx in Millets.

The windstopper seems to get a fairly mild pong after a week and pretty much levels out after that. Suppose it must have some anti-bacterial treatment - I think you could get away without washing it, but it gets thrown in anyhow. Some gear will just stink to high heaven in a couple of days.
