When I stayed for awhile in the US, I was amazed at the crudity of pretty much all white goods. All vast, poorly designed, space-inefficient and shoddily built. I suppose it's the lack of the kind of inyerface competition that exists here in Yurp.

Most of our everyday stuff goes on a quick wash, at I think 40c. A hot wash for smalls etc every now and then. I bung on a clean shirt, undies, socks etc every day so they never get really dirty. My work trousers get pretty ripe over a week and I only change them when I think they are about to walk off by themselves. It takes a hot wash to get them clean.
A pet hate is perfume in washing powders. What's wrong with the clothes coming out of the washer just smelling of ............clean clothes ? The same with shampoo/shower gel etc. can't abide walking out of the shower smelling like a bl**dy chocolate bar or a packet of s*dding sweets. Ugh !

Mrs Colly bungs in the recommended amount of detergent but being a tight git I only put in about a third of what she does. Know what? They come out just as clean.

When I worked in a hospital, many moons ago, we were given a tour of the hospital laundry (for some reason). The head laundry guy, who knew his soap from his suds, said that if you can see any bubbles, you're using too much washing powder. :okay:

Washing machines? What the hell is wrong with you lot?

I go down to the River Don once a week and smash the loincloth against the rocks...
Try dipping it in the Don the next time. You can smash it against rocks almost anywhere.
