Congrats! Glad to see you didn't get one w/ (heavy) front suspension. Keep an eye on that headset though -- looks like an integrated one. If it gets loose, it'll destroy the frame.

Make sure you take advantage of the free tune-up at the shop. They supply free tune-ups in the price for a while, huh?

There are some good links on my site. Keeping the drivetrain clean is a good start.

Definitely take advantage of the shop maintenance package.

the only thing I am not too keen is the twist shifter gears but with my limited budget I knew I would have to make a comprimise somewhere

Louise ... i would trade my trigger shifters to go back to using Sram X0 twist shift anytime

Perhaps thats an upgrade you could do as and when funds allow ?

cycling has certainly helped my peak flow breathing thingy.

keep the inhaler close to hand as you cool off from a ride, i find the body cooling down very quickly can cause a reaction. dont let it put you off, just ensure you are prepared. enjoy ...

Thanks also for asthma advice, its really encouraging that people have seen an improvement in their asthma, mine is severe and difficult and in the wrds of my asthma nurse "medical science hasn't caught up with my disease" meaning that despite it been pretty poorly controlled quiet a lot of the time there is nothing more they can give me to make it any better (I am on 1000mcg flixotide, 100mcg seretide and 500mg phyllocontin daily and also have salbutamol inhaler, salbutamol 5mg and atrovent 500mcg nebules and steroids for emergencies, I have to carry my nebuliser with me all the time):sad: so to hear that cycling has helped people is a real encouragement.:thumbsup:

Phew, you're a whole bunch worse than me Louise, commiserations on that. I tend to need a bit of becotide once a day in the hayfever season and during the onset of winter, and the odd shot of salbutamol but that's it for me.

At my last GP visit, back in May, they were quite pleased with how I'd improved since the previous year .. and that was after only a few months of commuting. Hopefully you'll see an improvement too .. but be careful !!

(Like you needed telling that. ;))

i used to have asthma but with more and more cycling it has gone away. It was not bad enough to need a nebuliser though. Enjoy the new bike

After taking a lot of advice from folks on here (thanks so much) I bought a bike this morning, someone suggested a specialized Vita and I relised that it would suit me and met my criteria.

One problem at £350 it was over my budget :sad: so back to square one then I went on to evens this morning and Vita 2009 was reduced to £292.00 £8 under my budget  and unusually for evans it was still available in extra small  ignoring Christmas and the car being due for a service (though I did check the bank balance) I bought it and it should be in my local evans this time next week.:biggrin:

I only hope that my asthma has settled enough and the weather warm enough to give it a test run when it arrives.:sun:

Congratulations !!! Post a picture of it when you got it !
I would really love to buy a racing bike, but unofrtunately cannot
afford it now
But take it easy when you get your new ride, health is most important!
