After taking a lot of advice from folks on here (thanks so much) I bought a bike this morning, someone suggested a specialized Vita and I relised that it would suit me and met my criteria.

One problem at £350 it was over my budget :sad: so back to square one then I went on to evens this morning and Vita 2009 was reduced to £292.00 £8 under my budget  and unusually for evans it was still available in extra small  ignoring Christmas and the car being due for a service (though I did check the bank balance) I bought it and it should be in my local evans this time next week.:biggrin:

I only hope that my asthma has settled enough and the weather warm enough to give it a test run when it arrives.:bicycle::sun:

congrats on the new bike, enjoy:bicycle:

Thanks so excited

Amusingly last years version is £50 dearer, the only thing I am not too keen is the twist shifter gears but with my limited budget I knew I would have to make a comprimise somewhere

Grip shifters are great, I have them on both my recumbents. You can change just one gear at a time, or many in one go which is very useful.

Thanks have sent out lots of emails along the lines of "look what I bought" now this is want for Christmas and listed a load of bike essentials

My friend fell over laughing when I told her, my asthma is really bad at the moment and she asked me what the heck possessed me to by a bike when I can hardly breathe! I laughed so much I had to go on my nebuliser-point taken!!

I'm asthmatic and offer this advice. Carry your inhaler (of course) and start each ride slow. I can get quite breathless if I set off too fast. For me the colder the weather the longer I need to spend on the slow start, anything up to a couple of miles at this time of the year. If need be take a couple of reliever doses before the start too.

AND enjoy your bike, I find regular rides keep my breathing clear.

I am really hoping that cycling helps my asthma as well

It has mine. My peak flow when I was tested earlier this year had improved quite a bit .. and that was after only a few months of commuting. Mind, I wasn't that bad to start with but I figure anything that imiproves your general fitness and cardio-vascular thingamy has to be a good thing.
