Can you not just link your Garmin and Wahoo accounts? I have Wahoo linked to Strava and RideWithGPS and if I create a route in either of those it just syncs automatically into my Wahoo account and when I turn the unit on they sync onto it and are there for use.

Yes I could but very often the club routes are shared via Garmin connect.

I can do an export from Garmin connect desktop version and email to my phone - not a problem - just wondered if there was a slicker way of doing it - just using the phone app...seems not.

I had to buy my Roam as a replacement for the Elemnt which was written off in an RTA. I think I've got to grips with the features I want to use except for one.

I cannot fathom how to use the "Route to Start" feature. I can see the function, I'm happy with loading routes from my phone or from the Wahoo unit but I cannot discover how to use the Route to Start feature once I have a route loaded. Can someone post an idiot's step by step guide? Cheers.

It’ll be the audio control page. Usually used for controlling things like Spotify or similar but if your phone had a YouTube video in the background this is shown as an audio source. You can remove this page using the Wahoo app when linked to the unit.

I have a Roam version 1. I don't think it has that screen at all - if it has I must have disabled it when I first got the vdevice, and have forgotten doing so.

You select the route when you are somewhere other than the start point, and it then comes up with a message asking if you want to route to start.

Or are you talking about the one where if you are lost, it will route you back to your start point? I've only used that once, but IIRC you get to it from the page which holds the routes, and instead of selecting a pre-defined route, you just scroll to the "route to start" option and select that.

It appears automatically on mine when I set off in a route but not at the start - "do you want to route to start" or something

I assume that if I respond yes, it will give directions to the start, but I've never used it.

As @Alex321 says, the words 'Route to start' appear in two places:
one is where you select a route and click 'Start' and are not right at the start of the selected route, in which case it'll ask you whether you want to route to the start [of the selected route];
the second is at the top of the routes page, where you can select from routes to load or places on the map, or points of interest.

In this context, I think you mean the second of those, and I suspect the question arises since you *cannot* select 'Route to start' whilst, as you say, you have a route loaded (i.e. active). So, if you are following a route and decide you want to be routed back to your start point, you need to 'End' the active route, by pressing the 'End' button, then, having done that, you can return to the 'Routes' page and select the 'Route to start' option.

This is great. Thanks to each of you above. I'm riding tomorrow with my club. Obviously I know exactly how to reach the usual meet point. I'll load the planned route at home and follow the suggestions above.

I think I'll only use it rarely but want to understand now rather than struggle when I actually need it.

Cheers 👍

Thanks to all the advice above I had the Route to Start function working within a couple of minutes. I was interested that while on Route to Start the direction chevrons are blue. They switch to black when one joins the route.

I deliberately took wrong turns and the re-route function kicked in instantly.

I do prefer the original Elemnt with a black and white screen. It was simply easier to read. This is excellent though. The green background/white lettering for directions is impossible for me to read. Not enough contrast.

And when you are off-route, following the blue chevrons, your original route still shows as a dark line. I find this useful if I decide to choose my own way back to the planned route.

This was an excellent suggestion. Thanks, Colin. I wear reading glasses and a cycle computer is on the edge of what I can read without them. The contrast on a black and white screen is a significant help. Switching to dark mode has given me +/- 95% of the clarity I previously enjoyed.
That's good, Paul.

I may have to 'go dark' myself soon - my reading range without glasses is getting very close to the distance from my eyes to my computer when riding!
