Yes, I remember someone mentioning that university study is like that. You spend years progressively learning more and more about less and less (i.e. specialising), until finally you know everything about nothing.

But when something disastrous happens in this industry an "expert" will be quizzed by the BBC, and of course none of us have ever heard of the expert, not one.

Recent BBC experts have informed us that the origin of the word 'picnic' was 'to pick a n*gg*r for lynching' and that 'nitty gritty' originally referred to the detritus left in the bottom of slave ships. Both claims were completely baseless but were given credibility by being broadcast on a national TV network.
