Waded through the fluffy stuff to our village shop today. Complete waste of time as there were no newspapers, no fruit and veg, no milk, no eggs, no point. Apparently the staff were rationing bread this morning.

Why do people have to be silly and bulk buy because of a bit of snow?

Oh well, I'll just check to see how my dough is rising.

I don't know that people do, particularly. It does make you think "Oh I should get that today rather than tomorrow" and much the same applies to petrol when there's a shortage. There's a tendency to bring forward purchases that you otherwise might leave, since going to the shops is a pain in the snow. Plus local shops are less able to re-stock because deliveries become more difficult. And with people relying on local shops more when it's snowing, since access to out of town supermarkets is problematical, the local shops selling out is inevitable.

I'll admit, I considered filling up my petrol can just to be on the safe side as my wife must get to work if possible (i've said elsewhere she's a pediatric nurse) but I didn't have it with me, so just filled the tank up.

Also, to keep a bit of weight on the back end, i'll not be running the car empty if I can help it.

I do wonder if anyone bulk buys newspapers...

I'm alright I managed to get the last 6 loaves of bread yesterday and 2 dozen eggs and 12 pints of milk. That should keep me sorted for a couple of weeks but i might get bored of the very select menu

That's a lot of rather dull bread and butter pudding...

Nah - you only need 5 loaves and 2 fishes.................

This came up at our Xmas meal last week, prompted by my order of fishcakes....

Our top boss was saying, the theory behind the parable is that Jesus's generosity in sharing out his scran prompted all the 5000 to share their own lunches which they had all along, but didn't want to share, or something... I'd never heard that before.

It pees me off as the ones who go in and stockpile are the ones who never support the shop for the rest of the year and manage to buy all the stuff so that the old people who dont drive are stuffed with nothing in the shop.

We've always supported our local shops, especially the garage which is a proper old fashioned one that does really good value repairs and servicing. The last time we had a petrol shortage (when the refineries were blockaded as I recall) Jim made the decision that he would only sell fuel to them as supported him the rest of the year. When I queued with the other locals the car in front turned out to be driven by some pompous git who was refused petrol as he wasn't a local. This stuck up prat in his band new Merc was apoplectic with rage yelling at Jim, "How dare you refuse to serve me, I've driven 50 miles to get here!", to which Jim's response was, "and it's 50 miles back again, sling yer hook". Brought a little ray of sunshine into my day........

Our local shop used to make sure all the old folk in the area were looked after in this sort of weather as they did deliveries but it's been sold now and I don't think they do it any more. They are having problems getting stock due to the snow, which seems to be the problem round here rather than panic buying.

or eggybread, 2 eggs, teaspoon of milk, pinch of salt, whisk with fork, dunk slices of bread, and fry in frying pan, repeat until mixture used up
for more than one of you, add an egg per person

thats a great way of explaining away the son of God's power really isn't it?
wasn't really Jesus' generosity either, since it was a child who gave his lunch to Jesus

Jesus did it again somewhere else too if the bible is to be believed.

I always use our local shop; we have a choice of Co-op's staffed by local people and a Tesco Metro staffed by people from all over the place. Guess which one we use.

Ok, it was the kid's generosity inspired them...

I thought it was a good way to interpret a tale, just a Jesus used parables that needed to be interpreted...

Of course your key phrase is 'if the bible is to be believed'. You can believe it all, or you can regard it as a set of parables.... To me the parables make more sense than the blind faith.

I'm a christian, but trying not to de-rail a thread into a religious debate, hence my wording
