The folks at the hotel were so nice. I asked them whether they might put my bicycle box in the room, and they obliged, the box was there waiting for me when I rolled in yesterday. Oh and they put me on the ground floor, one less hurdle.
Amazing. So much fun. I'll post a journal to CGOAB, but a few highlights for now:
Amazing therme in Austria, the best thing imaginable after a hard day of riding. I came to love the Aufguss.
The gradually more italiated area, food first: up to a point where on night three I slept in a pizzeria.
The incredible climb in the area of Semmering, so beautiful, so, so hard.
The whole idea of this huge valley just going on and on, sometimes west, sometimes south, (almost) always wide enough to fit in a highway, a railway or two, a speedy river and some countryside with me in it.
The beautiful little towns with their cafes on the main squares
The amazing area around Tarvisio. Must be good skiing in the winter
The absolutely astonishing first 50 km or so out of Tarvisio, possibly the most fun 50 km I've ever ridden - despite the pouring rain.
The cannoli at a central cafe in the Italian town whose name I can't now recall - a highlight of its own.
