Viagra... how important is "empty stomach" advice?

Users of Viagra are advised to take it on an empty stomach, but what happens if you've just had a meal? Does this negate the effects or just delay them...?

Using it for the first time so any (sensible!) advice gratefully received!

And yes, I know the one about it stopping me rolling out of bed. Thanks!!

If VIAGRA is taken with food, the onset of activity may be delayed compared to the fasted state
(see section 5.2).

How does that work with the romantic dinner?
Should I be optimistic and take one before dinner?
Or have the big dinner and take 2 and hope I don't die?
But my guest might not be quite so keen anyway

Could all be a bit academic. Glass of Armagnac and I might fall asleep these days.

Would this debate on when it should be taken allow us to do an 'infrequent' joke?

Sorry to be a bit of a fun sponge and be slightly serious, but could it be that a full belly needs a decent blood supply to process the food, making it harder elsewhere, or not as the case might be?

Have a read of the link I posted, which gives all the advice.

It's about absorption being affected by food, not blood supply from digestion changing the impact of the drug.

All drugs are tested as to the effect of food on absorption - it's a regulatory requirement. That's then reflected in labels which will recommend whether to be taken with food, or fasted.

Obviously the medicine needs to be released fast enough to achieve the increase in blood pressure..
But if food is present it will slow the absorption of the medicine and the increase in pressure might not be achieved?
