Hi there. I'm new here. Sorry for any typing errors as I'm on my iPhone. Anywho I have always just loved cycling for fun but last year I got quite ill and I've gone several stone underweight. I'm just starting to gain a little back now through eating but I'd love to cycle again. From your experience would this be advisable? I was planning to start slow for short gentle durations. Also is there any particular method to gaining weight or muscle through riding? Thanks

Talk to a doctor, but I wouldn't think so, as long as you increase your calorie intake accordingly. Maybe use the hunger pangs after a long ride to pig out a bit.

But I guess there would partly be a concern as to why you are so underweight in the first place. Without upping your calorie intake you will suffer further muscle wastage as your body tries to find some more energy.

Talk to your doctor  but my self I lost over 2 stones in less than a few weeks (got struck with Pacreatitis and fell to nearly 9stone, I'm 5 ft 9 in) and felt horribly weak. Got some horrible milk shake like things from the doc and built myself up to 9 & 1/2. Now cycling I float between 9 & 1/2 and 9st 10lb and my body feels good (well it did till I came off my bike yesterday ;)). Good Luck, in the end cycling will make you feel good and more healthier IMO but speak to your doctor first.

what you're basically saying is that you're going to be cycling along like normal then hoovering a full english every morning and as much pizza as you want without worry and staying thin right?
i'll just go peck at my lettuce.... ;)

defo speak with your doc, i had a bad bout which dropped me by 2 1/2 stone not so long ago took me ages to build my strength up so i hope you get your strength back soon!
