Stopped at the King's House in Glencoe last week for la bite to eat and spotted the perfect lunch: 'black pudding on a bed of haggis, with peppercorn sauce'. All four of us ordered it and it was magic!

If you ever want to have the wind at your back for a whole afternoon...

Beleive me, in Glencoe on a normal day, you don't even have to eat anything to get the same effect!

OK, to make a vaguely sensible post.......

Eccles cakes (but only those made in the proper Eccles cake factory in Manchester}
Vimto
Staffordshire oatcakes
Bakewell pudding (not, I repeat not, "bakewell tart" which is am abomination)
Bakwell tart is revered at the BBC.
I have a soft spot for Eccles cakes. (My gut, through eating too many...) I thought this confection gave rise to the famous Northern saying "By Eccles, like!"
Where do Staffordshire Oatcakes come from. Do we know them in civilisation?*

Go for it and tell them that I sent you. The standard pie is the benchmark closely followed by the pork and apple. Be adventurous and buy one of each.

You could then pedal on to Ripon and have an Appleton's pie - best easten warm.
Déja vu, I think I was in there when I did the WOTR a few years ago. I was attracted by the name, thinking the pies might have had a slug of Jamaican rum in them. Disappointingly they didn't, but still fine pies IIRC.. Is it the place facing the big open square in the town centre, or has time dulled my memory?

That's the one. There's another fine pie shop there. With Appleton's behind you look to the far side of the square, take the road that exits to the right and there's a butchers shop on the left a hundred or so ( or less) metres after leaving the square.
