I saw 2 crashes. One was I think just after Newport, the first time we encountered those hideous traffic calmers across the road. The second was near the bottom of the Tumble descent.

I saw the "Prison" sign, but didn't understand it.

Theres a prison in the centre of cardiff....you probably rode past it on the way out of the city. Inside the gates of the prison, there is a michelin starred restaurant open to the public

Saw the aftermath of two crashes, one of which looked serious (Blaenavon descent) Hope no one badly hurt.
I saw two crashes as well, both at the bottom of fast descents. One was a Marshall in a neck brace so not sure what happened there.

I almost had my own accident. Through the speed bump bit after Caerphilly Mountain. Decided to have a gel and hit one of the buggers on the side. Left hand holding the bar and right arm resting on it gel in hand result with the hedge getting rather close and a brown shirts moment

Speedy exit from Cardiff and the next 30k ish was no fun at all but the rest was lovely.
I will say I found the route in places rather bland. Those dual carriage ways with inclines were just both energy and mental sapping.

My hotel is next to the Prison. This was a hand painted one somewhere along the route.

Thanks for

thanks for posting the link but I may not read it. I saw one sign that said "Prison" and a white van man shout abuse at a group in front of me.

I think just the other side of when the road went up noticbly, there was congestion with people getting off for no obvious reason. There were a hell of a lot of bar and gel wrappers on the road so there were some suggestions they had tacks in them. But I didn't actually see any.

Other than that, I thought the local residents were excellent and supportive. Although, if I heard "This is the last hill" one more time there may have been trouble

I may do more of a write up someone but I'll just say now that I think I need a new pair of cleats. Due to no training, the Tumble and Caerphilly Mountain broke me and I had to walk and they aren't looking pretty. Even walking was hard  On the Tumble, I looked around and there were more walkers than people riding. I just thought that it was about getting to the finish.

When I was at the top of Caerphilly, someone shouted "In you face Caerphilly Mountain" that got a laugh from everyone.

I haven't looked at my time, but with stops I'm guessing around 6h30.
I seen the sign saying prison, what was that supposed to mean??

I don't know. I'm either guessing it was about the road closures or something we haven't got a clue about

At the Tumble, the first left handed his a very nice surprise around it  I think a riders words next to me were something like "Oh my god"

Looking at my data on Strava, I max heart rate was (I don't always trust my heart rate monitor) 201 on the Tumble. That must have been while I was still riding, possibly just after the second bend, so unless I could have controlled that very quickly, riding it was never going to happen even if my legs weren't trying to disown me

5 hrs 21 for me. I had to stop at the top of the tumble in the feed station for a wee, set me back 10 mins or so. You are right they were rubbish.
some of the organising left something to be desired, there was a right balls up getting riders into the pens with no one directing.

Caned it. 5 hours. Very happy with that.

Yep, there were a few pins on the road at one point, but as far as I could tell nothing more serious than punctures was caused.

Caerphilly mountain wasn't as bad as I was expecting, so I had a bit left at the end and gave it maximum beans for the last 10k which was fun.

Weather was very kind to us.
I did the same and just set up a segment from the Caerphilly Feed Stop to the End. Just polishing times Strava is now.

There was a hold up at 40k ish that was rumoured to be due to tacks.

Great fun, lots of camaraderie and banter on the hills. Fun support from the roadside. Perfect weather. A great day's riding.

I took my own food as I didn't trust the feed stations. Reportedly they were rubbish with precious little more than bananas (so I'm told).

I stopped at the top of the tumble, didn't bother with the others, it was just chaos. Really enjoyed the ride, I also got held up at 40km, didn't know the reason, and saw the guy down on the Blaenavon descent.

Some great speed in the first 40km, pleased I made it to the top of the tumble without issue, but I met loads of congestion on Caerphilly mountain, had a small group stop in front of me so had to stop, then couldn't get going again so walked for a bit before setting off again only to cramp.

Managed to finish in under 5 hours moving time, pleased with that (5h 13m chip time).

4 hours 57 moving time from Strava for me. I know I spent 40 mins chatting to a mate at the Caerphilly stop, whilst we waited for his group to catch up, so can add at least that amount to my time. Lol.

Wasn't worried about my time at that point, just having a laugh after the Caerphilly fun climb!
