Okay, and any 11 speed cassette will do?

I thought there was very specific spacing on cassettes to match gruppos
To clarify my earlier comment, as long as the freehub matches the cassette you can use a Shimano/SRAM type 11 speed wheel with Campag 11 speed shfters+deraileurs and vice versa.

With 11 speed, they match. 10 speed and earlier, not.

11sp Campagnolo, Shimano and SRAM road cassettes do not have the same sprocket spacing, it's just that the difference is so slight that it makes no odds in normal use.
  • Campagnolo 3.76mm
  • Shimano 3.69mm
  • SRAM 3.72mm
So if you index properly you could be about a third of a millimetre out at the extremes of the cassette.
But why would you do it? If you're going to splash out on 11sp, wouldn't you want all the components to match for maximum compatibility? The only application I can think of is if you wanted to run a wide range Shimano or SRAM cassette with a long cage Campagnolo mech and a double chainset, instead of using a triple.

Maybe if you needed a rear wheel from neutral service...

Sometimes wheelset bargains are limited to shim or campy. If they are completely compatible then there is no issue to avoid.

I need training/commuter wheels, aero TT wheels, and race wheels for windy conditions, perferably able to switch between my bikes. So I'll either have Veloce or Athena on both.

So I can one full set of Athena on the TT bike, though I have friction shifters and bar end brakes.

Can I migrate my Veloce bike piecemeal, or is it hubs, cassette, derailleur and shifters in one go?

Ah, no I'm going Veloce...it just seems like hassle, for a logo.

When I was struggling for breath riding with a well-known (and very good) bike-shop owner in the Pennines, he suggested i would get away with a Shimano back wheel and cassette with my Athena - the point being it gives you the chance to use a 32 on the back. With the new Campagnolo groupset coming out, then that problem is solved. He was confident that the standard Athena mech would cope with a 32.

Good call. When the chorus cassette wears, just get a 105 cassette for approx a third of the price.
You would have to change the freehub to a Shimano type to get the 105 cassette to fit.

i've always considered campag groupsets to sit in between the shimano ones in terms of the groupset food chain e.g. veloce is better than sora but not as good as tiagra…
When I did my research a few years ago the general consensus seemed to be that Xenon was positioned round about Sora and Veloce was positioned round about 105.
