Wasn't there a French Doctor who took out his own appendix under local?

Wonder if anyone has given themself the snip?

I tried to do mine myself but found I needed an extra finger to hold the knot!

LOL!!

Maz, the sperm get re absorbed into the body.

I was a bit 'delicate' for a few days and as has been said only light duties for a week or two.

I had it done under a local anaesthetic and was in and out in a matter of hours. *snigger*

I had visions of an IMMENSE build up, a bit like one of those cartoons where someone sticks their finger in the end of a running hose.........

What? No jokes about it making a vas deferens to your love life?

Nearly as old as the "Don't worry - it's only a small prick" joke by the anaesthetist

Thanks all for the feedback.

I also wondered where all the sperm go when they get to the end of the cul de sac. I seem to recall some story from my youth about Marc Almond needing an operation to remove copious quantities of sperm from his body - probably some urban myth (and that wasn't an invite for any crude obvious gags...).

I am slightly troubled by the permancy of the whole thing. I mean I'm very happy with my wife and have no plans to leave her but who knows what can happen in the future (without wanting to get too morbid). Then again I am knocking on a bit and the likelihood of anyone else wanting to have kids with me could be quite remote.

I read the posts on dieselengine's thread that appeared in the Similar Threads box at the bottom of this thread and there was a good bit more detail proffered by some posters which if anything has frankly put me off. This fish hook thing sounds ghastly!

The surgical aspect to it is actually quite simple, short and the side-effects few. The fact that you are troubled by the permanency of this procedure leads me to believe you are not settled in your own mind about the personal need to have it. My advice is to sit down with the wife and look at the alternatives. Do only go ahead with it if you want to. Despite what other people say about it not being permament, reversal is a more difficult procedure and not always successful. And some people just do not want to do it, which is fair enough. Not wishing to create a debate about gender, but sterilisation is also available for women, albeit it is a more 'serious' procedure which is why most couples opt for the vasectomy route. But that is an alternative.

Thanks, Chris. We did have a very preliminary chat with our consultant during the pregnancy but it came up so late in the process that she didn't want to pressure us into a decision (by which I mean the option was there for sterilisation at birth as my wife had to have a c-section). We clearly need to have a proper sit down (rather than the somewhat offhand - but clearly engineered - fashion in which it was raised by my wife the other night) but it does seem to me like the alternatives for the woman are pretty inconvenient.

Had mine 15 years back and no pain and certainly no regrets. In fact the only pain was the pubes growing back.

The worst bit was turning up a few weeks later to give my sample, expecting a Carry on Nursing scene, with a busty nurse and some 70's issues of Club International, but in fact getting a miserable middle aged man who gave me a pot and sent me home with instructions to drop it in at the GP when I was done!

Well, better than having to knock one out in the car in the hospital car park.

I am a lightweight, I sent in the Mrs to have her gearbox dis-engaged.

When she was on the bed just about to go under the Doc said to me, "It's still not too late for you to have it done instead!"

He went on saying that her proceedure was more complex than if I were to have it done. also saying that there's a 1 in 200 chance of her getting pregnant but 1 in 2000 if I have it done.

1 in 200 is good enough odds for me!

So you can only make love 199 times a month?;)
