Usual(ish) lock question

I've signed up to a cycling gym in London, that has cctv monitored bike racks that always have staff about. So it's a safe place to leave my Giant Avail 2 road bike, but now it's time to buy a lock.

I'm thinking Evolution mini or New York mini, and veering towards Evolution, as it's lighter and cheaper. The lock will mostly live in the bike park, but will occasionally come out with me.

My logic is that the evolution or new york will need an angle grinder, and that's not going to happen where I'm parking it, and neither - on it's own - will be enough if it's parked outside in central London; which I have no immediate plans to do. If that happens in the future, I'll get the New York as well and a cable for my B17s and locking wheel nuts etc etc etc.

A good plan?

Kryptoflex cable for the wheels or Abus Cobra (coils up more neatly) cables might be good for locking the wheels to the D-Lock too.

Sounds good to me. But I'd opt for a N.Y Fahgetaboudit (SP?) lock to be on the safe side. Mini-D's are better as you don't always have to use an angle grinder. Bottle jacks are also a commonly used tool by thieves, they prize open the d-lock by putting it into a small enough space in a regular sized d-lcok. So a mini Kryptonite foils that plan.

You can lock up the regular sized ones properly as shown here:

Just make sure you leave no space for the thief to be able to prize open the lock.

As for the seat/seatpost. Good idea. A guy on my local forum has done that with a Kryptonite seat saver cable

You don't really need locking skewers/locking wheel nuts. You can simply remove your front wheel and lock it to the rear wheel with the d-lock. But that's your choice.

Have you thought about Bike insurance too?

Thanks.

I think I am more worried about securing the stem cap than the wheels. I'm seeing more and more cycles around London without fork/handlebars. Or sometimes without anything much ....

Still, I'm never planning to leave my bike outside, so this is not my primary concerned.

Oh, and I called my insurance, and the bike is covered as long as it is locked.

Thanks. Considering this option: http://www.parker-international.co....ion-Mini-7-with-4-Foot-Kryptoflex-Cable-.html

That frame always used to catch my attention on the Cable Street pseudohighway - a real eye opener.

Id second the mini new york. The evo might well be fine, but personally I prefer the peace of mind of having a better one.
