Gawd! There are no data charges on your phone if you swtich off 3g! GPS doesn't need 3g to work - so a phone is quite feasible. However, there is another issue: battery use. Phones need to be charged more often than a dedicated GPS unit. Perso, I only use GPS very rarely on a tour so it isn't a problem.

I'd be interested in answers to your question too redcard.

My mobile can't have much life left in it and must be around 10 years old by now, so I am interested in a GPS capable replacement. WiFi would be nice too but not essential. 2nd hand and unlocked obviously.

Strava and Endomondo files are the same format so if it records in on one app it should on the other or at least you should be able to transfer rides between the two.:thumbsup:

The key is to download it as a gpx (Garmin) format - osmond can read those. You can plot a course in ViaMichelin, ridewithgps, mapmyride, Endomondo .... whatever takes your fancy - then you save your route and download (or export) it as gpx. Simples. ^_^
