Avensis or Mondeo estate.
Just bought a MK3 TDi Octavia VRS estate to replace the outgoing Mk1 Octty VRS.
Under 10K, massive boot and returns 50+ on MPG.
I'm biased but the Octavia gives best of almost all worlds.
I have been in a fabia and tbh that is out on size grounds.
So far out:
All Skodas
All Vauxhalls
Kia Soul,
Toyota Auris
Kia Ceed
Rav4
All BMWs, Audis and VW (my prejudice applies with this, they are all either dick drivers who own them or overpriced scene tax if VW)
Funnily enough I have not seen many of those which is unusual for mondeo. I think it is down to Ford going wholeheartedly into the SUV sector.
One main Ford dealer saleswoman told me that i should avoid the Ford SUV models and get a mondeo or focus estate once before we went for our last car. She was quite negative about their SUVs. She said of one model that the SUV lost an NCAP star but the normal car format based on the same platform kept it!!
Peugeot made/make some estate cars too, ditto Hyundai
I believe the Superb is bigger with decent mpg. My mate had a company car Superb , well specc'd, very roomy
Passat estate ?. Plenty of room in there for a six foot driver and rear passenger - was in one for 4 hours. Three occupants, two bikes inside (one of roof) and a whole load of bike packing gear. Plenty of space for three.
Indeed. Golf/A3/Leon floorpan for the Octavia and Passat/A4/Exeo floorpan for the Superb
They are a very highly specced cruiser for not much money
Except for the VW scene tax whatever that might be

is that a van? minibus?
I had a very good astra estate for years. It was very good including on summer tyres driving on snow if you handled it right as I found out after getting snowed into the Lakes once. The trouble is it is common to base decisions on your latest experience. In our case it was a dead engine in our Vauxhall Vivaro a few years after converting it and putting so much money into it!!! Kind of put us off or the astra estate would have been right up there in the list of possibles.Peugeot a good shout. I almost bought a 408 estate but the dealer was such a liar I walked away. Turns out he'd done time for clocking and other illegal practices. I drove my 1.6hdi up to 155k with little to no bother before the crash.
I was going to suggest a Vauxhall Signum (ultra rare but cheap for what they are) as they are massive inside but I seen that Vauxhall's are out. I owned one - I loved the sliding back seats to either increase leg room or boot space. You could also get a fridge as an optional extra.
What about a DS5? They are very well spec'd and would be available well within the 10k budget.
