@mickle doesn't like the use of certain words because of their associations. I am sympathetic to his arguments. What I find bizarre is the number of people that argue he's wrong or dismiss his arguments as silly or worthless.

Surely if people get upset by something, we should acknowledge and accept this. The upset is real. It's not posing or posturing. I find many of the responses on this thread sad. If you don't like what he says or haven't a counter argument, just move on. Don't post, don't even read it. As my mother used to say, if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all.

Please let's not go looking for other offensive words. It's not big and it's not clever.

Quite worryingly I didn’t think it was serious. After all the English language has altered many times, with words having many meanings to different people, and those meanings altering over time and area.

You are apparently under the impression I don't know what a question mark is. Let me reassure you that I do, that's why I asked you to point it out as there was not one visible in the post I was referring to.

Don’t worry we seem to have some wires crossed. FWIW I wasn’t trying to say you hadn’t asked an initial question. I was replying to cycleops who seemed put out that someone offered some explanation of why the OP might not have replied. He called that a question so I was using his wording. I could have been clearer so that’s on me
