URGENT
Went to renew my Footman James VJMC club policy (9 named bikes - newest 1996) tonight as I got paid yesterday. It expires on Tuesday.
The renewal email stated the policy had gone down by £20 so I didn't check the actual amount - big mistake. It has gone up by over £100 to £460+. My car insurance on an old CRV has gone down from £413 to £270 (also due now). The car insurance is fully comp and includes business insurance.
I don't understand how the bike insurance can have increased so much. Is this just me?
Last year Peter James and Carole Bennet (and another I can't remember) couldn't manage FJ price.
Anyone suggest an alternative insurer as this just doesn't seem right.
Thanks in advance.

I am with Bennetts (not Carol Bennett, did you mean Carole Nash? (Always expensive IME.)). Single bike in my case but I think they also do multiple. Mine was around £100 fully comp for a 1999 Honda NT650V Dullsville...

Not motorbikes, but old landrovers. Renewal went up by over £100 this year. Have been with Adrian Flux for over a decade and despite creeping increases they have always managed to be the cheapest. Anyway, did the annual ring around and this time struck gold. Another specialist actually undercut the previous years price. Only catch was no cover for driving other vehicles, but I can live with that. Funnily enough, once challenged with that AF came down to within £20 of this new price and I keep the other cars entitlement.

I'm sure they just make these prices up depending on what they think you will pay! Apparently AF haven't reduced the cost of the insurance but have managed to get my low price by sacrificing their fees and commission..... SOB

Ring around, play them against each other.... Good luck.

I did mean Carole Nash - I blame it on insurance hunting fatigue

It seems a long time ago now, but when I had several bikes the old Norwich Union multi bike policy covered a multitude of sins. Once some of the bikes became "classic" it seemed like a licence for the insurance industry to ask you to open a vein so they could drain you at their leisure. They seem to think you're fabulously wealthy if you have more bikes than buttocks, even if they're things like MZs in various states of running restoration. Try adding a sidecar outfit to the mix for maximum incredulity and "we're doing you a favour" effect. And if you intended to use them for regular transport...?

I'm down to one "classic" (ie old) bike now, a '95 Honda NTV650 Revere in daily use. No ridiculous mileage restrictions, breakdown cover and legal cover included, protected NCB etc with One Call. It's not insured as a "classic". £90 -odd. I do have the car with them though.

Doesn't help the OP, but multi -classic insurance does seem a very niche market, leaving you at the mercy of a limited number of providers. As @I like Skol says, you can only try playing them against each other to see what comes up.
