I've allowed myself to be assimilated by Strava, not because I'm likely to be king, prince or minor arch-duke of any mountains, but just as a social thing with a club I belong to and as a convenient way of logging mileage against my goal for the year.

I have the 810 set to automatically upload to Garmin Connect, and use CopyMySport to copy from there to Strava, but that feels like a rather clunky solution (and far from instant). Looking in the iPhone Strava app, I can't see any way to set it to receive ride data from the 810?

You go to Strava.com on a computer and click upload activity. It will then automatically search for your Garmin like Garmin connect does.

To be clear: with Garmin Connect, I don't need to go anywhere near a computer. As soon as I hit Save at the end of a ride, the 810 automatically sends the ride data to the Garmin Connect app on my iPhone, and then the app uploads it to the Garmin Connect site. From there, CopyMySports (eventually) copies it to Strava, but I'm ideally looking for a way to do it direct.

It can, but you have to connect it to the PC via a USB lead..
See above - the app is on my iPhone, there is no computer involved.

That would kill the iPhone battery and likely be less accurate given the phone is in my pocket and the GPS on the handlebars.

Thanks, that's describing the process I already use, so looks like that's indeed the only way to do it.
