I have a Allez Triple with a square taper BB described here:-

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/allez-24-2011-road-bike-ec025026#features

and thinking of upgrading to a 105 compact groupset listed here:-

http://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-105-5700-groupset-black-49193.html

Will there be any issues with 105 BB?

The front mech has a lug soldered to the frame and what looks a 5mm hex bolt to mech so am I right in thinking I need a braze-on mech?

Any other issues I should consider?

Seems such a good price for the upgrade ^_^

Sadly it wont fit. A new bb is about £20 though... but this deal comes with a bb? You may need to check if your current rear wheel will take a 10 speed cassette.

If you are looking for upgrades, starting with wheels and tyres gives you a better bang for your buck in terms of performance/speed :-)

I had a 2011 Allez sport that was kitted out with Sora, that was fitted with HT2 BB. I upgraded to 105 and Ultegra parts as and when I could afford them and it made the gear changing 100% smoother. I did upgrade the wheels as well, but did not think they were that bad for the price of the bike.

I went down the exact same process. 2011 Allez sport with Sora which I changed to full 105 groupset.

It was a 9 speed bike and I had already changed the wheels so no issue with the cassette.

I did all the work myself, no major issues. You would need a bottom bracket removal tool and a couple of other tools too. I think I got a nice tools tool kit and it had everything I needed.

Just as a curveball, it might be worth considering the SRAM Apex groupset, slightly cheaper in Merlin than 105 and I love the mechanical way SRAM shifts.

Yes, for that particular one. But it included in the package you linked...

It's not included?

I've got a BB tool and some wheels I can move from a 10 sp boardman so it seems BB is only issue? What BB you install?

I installed the bib that came as part of the groupset I bought. I believe it was a bb30 105m this one I think http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-105-5700-bottom-bracket-cup-set/

As it transpired after around 4,000 miles it started to click on each revolution. LBS tracked down the noise to the BB and replaced it. They also machined the frame as they are not always 100% perfect to fit the BB, it is now!

That looks like the BB in my initial link which another poster said wouldn't fit!!

You said you had a square taper BB which would be an internal one. The one linked is Hollowtec2 which would work (may need to face bb) but bb30 is different again, not sure where that came from!
