A lolly-ice stick on the rear fork that rattles against your spokes gives a realistic motor-bike sound. The lasses down the park get well impressed by that one.

Hmm, I also have an SCR and was planning to replace the tyres with some faster ones, but does upgrading the wheelset really make much difference? The bike comes with Alex DA-22. Was thinking about these

Yes. The DA22s are serviceable, but not the most exciting wheelset around - change them for Aksiums, and clad those with good tyres and tubes (e.g. Conti GP4000, or 4000S) and you'll notice a huge difference in the way the bike feels - much more fun xx(

I keep my Aksiums for nice days (not seen much action this year) and the DA22s for commuting and rubbish weather. I believe goo_mason rides his all the time (but then he did keep breaking his DA22s....)

Definitely change the tyres, if you're still riding the Kendas that came with the bike. Changing the wheels for some nicer ones (like the Aksiums) will give you a better ride by far.

Yes - been riding my Aksiums full-time since May. They've survived the battering of the pot-holed and sunken-drained Edinburgh roads with aplomb. No damage, still as true as the day they went on, and still looking lovely. John - you're wasting them by only riding them when it's nice weather

I'm not being facetious here, but while I absolutely agree with clipless pedals and tyres & wheels as being by a big margin the most significant upgrades, two of the biggest enhancements to my ride were when someone put me wise to track pumps, and the difference it makes when you keep your tyre pressures up to the maximum, and proper chain lube. £20 all told, BIG difference.
