There's nothing to beat an expert. Eddison's, in Clowne is not too far from you. Chris, the owner, is really knowledgeable, and a lovely bloke to boot.
Whatever you do, get the best frame you can afford, then spend on the wheels. Everything else is pretty much disposable, just replace it as it wears out.

Well....I've still not got my new bike! The weather really hasn't been well enough for me to even go and look at bikes....and my faithful Giant Boulder has been doing me proud on the snow.
Maybe I'll hold off for a bit and wait for the snow to clear, I'd be loathed to get rid of the old cycle but I'm really limited to room and can only have one or the other.
