yes I know its ancient, and yes I could get a Virgin or EE SIM card and it would work.

but i don't want another number.

i know i have to enter an unlock code based on an algorithm that uses the IMEI but a quick online search means entering payment details into sites i frankly wouldnt trust.

is there any mobile phone gurus who can sort the code or know of a site that works that doesn't require card details.

Quick search brought this up ..

No idea if it's any good but doesn't appear to ask for any money.

A proper phone user.

It's still the only mobile I use; drop it, kick it, sit on it, it still works and I don't charge it more than once a week.

I was in Halfords recently returning an item and the chap at the till was ordering a replacement online for me to collect at a nearer store. He asked me my number so I could get the order confirmation, entered it on screen and my phone beeped in my pocket. When I took it out to check, the young lad said "Wicked!" as he gazed in awe at my black and gold 6310i. A proud moment for an old geezer.

thx.

have entered the code and it displayed the magic words.

Sim Restriction OFF

put new sim in and it says. " Phone restricted"

enters the code , clicks OK button. says Phone was NOT retsricted"

I think its time to take it to an unlocking shop .....

in other news the 5110 i also have the sim works fine in that !!

5110 - now that's a real blast from the past!

Interesting factoid - the 6310i is very popular in the legal profession, the more battered the better.

Is it locked on Orange by any chance?

I've used unlock codes from ebay successfully in the past, always for a couple of quid. This phone seems to be a fiver, for 02. For ee, an unfeasible £13 and change.

I remember having a 6310 and then a 6310i which I only retired two years ago when it actually broke!

The 6310 I recall didn't have the "silence" option when someone was calling you so you'd have to let the call audibly ring out to the answerphone. The 6310i however had the "silence" option which was joyous.

Wish mine hadn't broke.

All was not lost as rumaging round the old IT cupboard at work I found a Nokia C2 circa 2011 vintage. A bit smaller than the 6310 and the battery not quite as good but still lasts a few days between charges and I yap a lot on it.
