I was after a decent device to keep an eye on my chain wear and came across the Unior Pro Chain Checker ( model 1643/4) on FaceTube -

I liked the look of that bit of kit, this morning I took delivery of same. At £17 it's probably a tad on the expensive side for a chain wear tool but it gives an accurate indication of your chain's state of health and is very well made.

So if you've got a few quid burning a hole in your pocket, I got mine from Quality Industrial Components in Newmarket 01638 666626.

I check my chain wear with a Shimano TL-CN41 Chain wear indicator tool which is a lot more expensive but. There is a good discussion of chain wear indicators here. So far it appears to be reading more accurately than my Park Tool chain wear indicator and hence I am changing the chains later. Given the way the one you have got works it has the same problems as most chain wear indictors if the article is valid.

Hi Andrew, your link doesn't work, I'd be interested to read what its says. Could you try and post the link again please.

Yes it is an expensive upfront cost but based on my experience todate I am getting a lot more life out of my chains so offsetting at least some of cost. Oh I got mine from http://bike24.net which a little better.

Andrew

Andrew, could you clarify please. Is this a Shimano specific tool or can it be used on all chain makes.

Thanks.

Steve.

I use it with Shimano, KMC and Wipperman chains. I haven't seen a reason to restrict its use to just Shimano.

Unfortunately the only reliable tool is not readily available and if the price in the one supplier I found is correct, I'm not surprised...

Yep. What Jimmy says

Calibration has to be from centre. Calibrating out, both sides. The only one available to my knowledge is the one Jimmy recomends

Failing not getting one . Just use a ruler

The guy in the vid is doing it wrong. I don't care if he's from Park tools
