It's amazing how expensive some of the components can get. I tend to buy complete bikes as donor bikes and mix and match components when I'm building a bike.
I know how much difference there is in feel between 105 and some of the lower grades, I can only imagine how good the Dura Ace stuff is.
It's impressive how solid some of the older stuff is, it lasts well.

It's impressive how solid some of the older stuff is, it lasts well.

I'm running 600, Dura Ace and old LX XT on three bikes. The MTB stuff has been really reliable. Only 'upgraded' the LX canti's and rear Mech to XT as I got good deals - the XT canti's were literally in a 'flood sale'. MrsF has 10 speed XT on her MTB, and it's not as 'robust' as the old stuff - it's lighter and robust enough, but not as 'bomb proof'.
